None of the above: Helmond Sport just doesn't use the 'never change a winning team' motto
Helmond Sport clinches league title
Helmond Sport have sealed the championship in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie after a 3-2 win at FC Dordrecht on Friday. The club, that was relegated from the Eredivisie last season, will return to the highest Dutch football league next season after emerging champions of the second-tier league.
Topscorer Van Hoorenbeeck decisive
Helmond Sport's victory on Friday was largely thanks to a quick brace from topscorer Arno Van Hoorenbeeck, who secured the 1-2 lead for his team at halftime. The 28-year-old striker's 35 goals this season played a crucial role in the club's title win.
'Never change a winning team' definitely does not apply
Despite clinching the title, Helmond Sport head coach Sven Swinnen surprisingly made seven changes to his starting line-up for the game against Dordrecht. The Dutch coach opted to field a team of predominantly substitute players, many of whom have not played much this season. "The changes today were to show that it's not just about eleven players", Swinnen said after the game. "At the start of the season we talked about a core of 18 or 19 players, and now everyone in the squad has contributed to the title win."
Bidding farewell to the club
For a few players, the game was their final appearance or even farewell for Helmond Sport. Midfielder Mike Havekotte announced earlier this month that he will be leaving the club after the season to accept a coaching role at PSV. "It's time for me to take the next step in my career", Havekotte said. "I am proud of what we have achieved this season, and I wish Helmond Sport all the best in the future."
